UD - GO Burger

Living in the city, you’ve never had much need for a garage full of cars.

But a garage full of steakhouse burgers, spiked milkshakes and plasma TVs… well, you could certainly find a use for a place like that…

Introducing GO Burger, the kind of forward-thinking establishment that’ll put Guinness in your float, duck fat in your fries and grilled cheese on your hamburger, opening early next week.

Much like a forbidden tryst, a great leather-and-wood-clad sports bar only comes along when/where you least expect it. Say, a week after the Super Bowl. On the Upper East Side.

And yes, normally, this might be a deterrent. But you’ve always been open-minded when it comes to places that’ll fry your pickles, stud your Smashed Burger with onions and pour a whole gang of tequila in your chocolate shake.

So you’ll make an excuse to be in the area (you’re auctioning Mesopotamian artifacts at Sotheby’s) and enter through the working garage door. Once you’ve found the table with the best TV sight lines… ignore it, and instead focus on the menu.

The burger offerings: generous. But you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t at least sample theUltiMelt. A Black Angus burger that’s topped with caramelized onions, smoked bacon and two slender rye and grilled gruyère cheese sandwiches.

Finish and they’ll give you the garage clicker.

Where to drink this week: The best football bars

The NFL playoffs hit full speed this weekend, and you know what that means: a perfect excuse to get blitzed at these standout sports bars.

Kettle of Fish
If the Green Bay Packers are still in the running, you can bet your rent check that this Wisconsin-inspired rec room will be packed to the gills with cheeseheads. And even if the Pack has been felled, this convivial Greenwich Village stalwart still offers all the trappings of a great American sports bar: charmingly shoddy TVs, cheap suds (bottles of Bud and Yuengling go for $4) and a spirited crowd. 59 Christopher St between Waverly Pl and W 4th St (212-414-2278)

Pacific Standard
California’s football teams collectively crashed and burned this year, but that doesn’t stop this Left Coaster hangout from being a top game-day option. The long bar in front doles out 17 top-notch brews, and a cozy back area feels just like your living room— if your living room has super-comfy couches, a massive projection screen and a dartboard. During playoff games, pitchers of Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale (one of our favorite winter beers) go for just $15. 82 Fourth Ave between Bergen St and St. Marks Pl, Park Slope, Brooklyn (718-858-1951)

Standings Bar
If only all sports bars were more like Standings, where a well-curated lineup of American microbrews encourages beer drinkers to venture beyond Bud Light. Every inch of the tiny East Village space is lovingly plastered with sports memorabilia and newspaper clippings, eight HDTVs cover all the action, and audio from the games always takes precedence over music. (“Standings hates music,” says owner Gary Gillis.) Gratis bagels during the Sunday-afternoon game will help you soak up 72-ounce “mega” pitchers ($20) of craft suds. 43 E 7th St between Second and Third Aves (212-420-0671)

Studio Square
You won’t have to elbow for space at LIC’s massive beer hall, where supersized steins of suds (Abita Purple Haze, Spaten; $13) and pitchers of sangria match the sprawling digs. A dozen flat-screens are strategically positioned throughout the complex, and you can grab a picnic table in the garden for some fresh air at halftime. Gird your belly for afternoon drinking with German standards (kielbasa, bratwurst), plus plates of 25-cent wings available during games. 35-33 36th St between 35th and 36th Aves, Long Island City, Queens (718-383-1001)

The Whiskey Brooklyn
Football games are long, but making it to the fourth quarter isn’t a problem at this adult fun-house. Stoner-friendly eats (including baskets of Coney dogs and “bowls o’ bacon”) sate the hungry, while an arsenal of diversions (shuffleboard, foosball, arcade games) offer a respite for fans who can’t sit still for the whole game. Best of all, you don’t need to be a high-stakes fantasy-league winner to afford a constant drip of house booze—“light” or “dark” beer ($4), plus dangerously easy-drinking pours of Tom Lawless Whiskey ($7). 44 Berry St at North 11th St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (718-387-8444)
