It’s pretty unclear if anybody was crying out for an album of crusty blues covers from Cyndi Lauper. But if this local new-wave icon has demonstrated anything over the course of her three-decade career, it’s that the girl just wants to have fun. So into the world last month dropped Memphis Blues, on which Lauper offers surprisingly low-quirk renditions of tunes by Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson; she even gets help from A-list blues types such as Allen Toussaint, B.B. King and Ann Peebles. Lauper doesn’t really bring anything new to the music, but in a way, that’s central to the album’s off-kilter charm: You can tell she simply loves this material, and knew that her super-devoted audience would follow her wherever she went. It’s a labor of love minus any sense of labor.

This week Lauper will bring her new album to the Town Hall, where she’ll be backed by a band of veterans, including harmonica great Charlie Musselwhite and Charles “Skip” Pitts on guitar; Pitts contributed the indelible wah-wah to Isaac Hayes’s “Theme from Shaft,” which means you can count on extra crust tonight. Expect a main set dripping with blues, and an encore consisting of ’80s hits like “True Colors” and “Time After Time.”

Romero’s belated sequel to his first masterpiece gives the material a satirical spin, frequently dispensing with the gore in order to poke fun at consumer culture. (The heroes have barricaded themselves in a shopping mall.) Many of Romero’s fans consider this even better than the original.
